Seminare il progresso?
Qualche tempo fa stavo cercando di improvvisare un discorso su un argomento a me caro; normalmente il mio parlare era fluido e ben strutturato, ma in quella circostanza balbettavo e annaspavo, aggrappandomi alle idee che fuggivano spaventate dal mio essere e dalla memoria.
Quest’avvenimento mi ha immediatamente fatto pensare ai vantaggi dell’avere una mente in forma, proprio come la vogliamo; e sùbito ho ricordato pianisti, politici e letterati che attraverso il loro acume hanno segnato la storia degli uomini.
Si tratta soltanto di alcuni esempi, ma essi richiamano l’idea che il buon utilizzo della scienza ci ha consentito di raggiungere traguardi davvero enormi, i quali hanno recato con sé benessere, profitto e civiltà.
Nel contempo però abbiamo abiurato al nostro dovere di ancorarci all’etica e agli aspetti più nobili della natura per così dire umana. Ed ecco che naturalmente il successo s’è convertito in rovina, né era possibile un esito differente.
Possiamo dunque invertire la rotta? I caveat a cui badare sono effettivamente molti.
C’è bisogno soprattutto di seminare il progresso, e non la smania incontrollata dell’egoismo. E dovremmo tutti percepire quanto sia misera una società che, in luogo di collaborare per fini lodevoli, cela a sé stessa la conoscenza e propala per converso l’inganno e la simulazione.
Inoltre la sconfinatezza di alcuni poteri instilla razionalmente il dubbio che essi non si attaglino alla schiatta di cui oggi il mondo trabocca.
Ma su tutto grandeggia la speranza, talvolta insussistente, di un riscatto benefico.
Some time ago I was in the process of giving an impromptu speech on a delectable topic. Now, while I used to deliver every outpouring of words with fluency and coherence, on that occasion I stuttered and stumbled for things to say, clinging to my ideas, but they were stampeding away from me as if overpowered by fear.
Therefore I concluded that we absolutely need a well-trained mind and this was the forte of piano men, politicians and wordsmiths who harnessed their acumen to write history.
I am just exemplifying in order to imply that science, when used fairly, paved the way for astonishing targets in terms of profit, well-being and elevation.
At the same time though, we reneged on our commitment to adhere to ethics and to the dignified sides of human nature, so to speak. And thus success turned into calamity, as it was meant to be, given these premises.
So I wonder if we can start over from scratch, but the cautionary signs are actually many.
Still we would be supposed to create progress and quell the uncontrollable and selfish urge to turn to ourselves.
And we should know that we can’t commend this world when it chooses to conceal knowledge and spread travesties and fabrications, instead of working towards a positive goal.
Moreover some faculties are so immeasurable that it would be wise to scrutinize whether they can be extant in a society so rife with moot principles.
But on the other hand a cascade of hope is looming upon us in all its grandiosity.
